Equality Diversity Inclusion
At Edge Grove we are passionate about creating an inclusive school that values and celebrates diversity, enriches the education of our pupils and connects us closer to the communities we support.
Our 16 core values are at the heart of all we do and from this we are nurturing and growing an equitable, diverse and inclusive culture where all our staff and pupils have the confidence to be themselves and the freedom and support to explore and reach their full potential.
We recognise that the diversity within our community is a strength of the School and that our longer-term aspirations pay due respect to the aspects of culture, race, age, gender, religion or belief, sexual orientation and disability which make us individuals.
We are committed to the well-being of each person within our School community and to safeguarding and supporting them in relation to all nine of the categories covered by the Equality Act 2010, often referred to as the “protected characteristics”.
Edge Grove strives to be a diverse and equitable school in which every member of the school community knows that they are seen, heard and belong, and are able to be who they are. Our aim is to inspire all members of our community to be true to themselves at the same time as celebrating everyone’s differences and unique selves.
We are proud to be a diverse community, in which every member has equality of opportunity, irrespective of their age, disability, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation. As a school, we are committed to the highest ideals in our search for full equality, diversity and inclusion; and this is central to our school’s ethos and values as outlined in our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) statement.
A Culture of Equality
Edge Grove champions a culture of equality and provides a welcoming environment, where all members of our community can be comfortable in their own skin; can share their points of view, and contribute their ideas.
Equality
Everyone at Edge Grove has equal opportunity; at School, we believe no one should be treated differently or discriminated against because of their characteristics. We encourage everyone – staff, pupils, parents – to safeguard equality of opportunity, meaning that each individual is given an equal chance to fulfil their potential.
Diversity
The School aims to respond positively to variety, valuing and seeing strength in our differences. We foster compassion for those within the School community and beyond, whilst also embracing intellectual curiosity.
Inclusion
Inclusion is essential for staff and students, irrespective of one’s age, disability, gender, race, religion, and sexual orientation, or any other characteristic. Whilst some of these may change in relevance over time, and where staff or pupils are at certain stages of their lives, knowing and understanding them is essential to fostering a positive environment, both within Edge Grove and beyond the confines of the School. Hearing all voices and valuing all experiences makes staff, pupils and the wider community a much stronger place.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, composed of staff and parents, meets regularly to discuss progress against goals and new initiatives to ensure the School is fully representing its current and future community.
Pupils are also heavily involved in this.
