The Edge Grove Community

Edge Grove is more than just a school; it is an inclusive, welcoming and thriving community of children and adults, to which new members are warmly welcomed, and one with which we hope everyone will remain in touch long after they have left the School.  Membership of the Edge Grove community is for life!

Parents may think it is just their child who is joining the School, but this couldn’t be further from the truth; it is important to us that parents too are engaged with the work of the School, and through our thriving Parents’ Association, the Friends of Edge Grove, families have the opportunity to enjoy numerous events and fundraising activities which bring the School community together throughout the year.

For pupils, our House system ensures a sense of community that transcends forms and year groups; pupils from the Summer Term in Nursery are allocated to a House (siblings are placed in the same house, and where possible, family connections to a particular House are maintained). Throughout their time at the School, they will enjoy the friendly rivalry that the House system breeds; in their younger years they will look up to and learn from older pupils, and in turn they too will lead and inspire.

It is important that our children learn that they are part of something bigger than “just” Edge Grove; they are part of our immediate and wider community and our pupils understand the value in looking outwards and making a difference to others. The School supports a number of local, national and international charities throughout the year – which benefits not only the charity but also our pupils as they learn how they can be part of improving the lives of others.   Charitable Giving is one of the strands of the Diploma programme for our  Senior Department pupils, who come up with ingenious ways of supporting their chosen charities.  The Diploma combines personal development with a stronger sense of responsibility for our School environment and for society as a whole. A specific focus centres on the service that older pupils can give to the younger members of the school.

SUPPORTING CHARITIES

At Edge Grove, cultivating a spirit of compassion and community engagement is not just encouraged—it is at the core of our values. Through a blend of independent initiatives and cooperative endeavours, pupils actively participate in making a positive impact on the world around them.

One poignant example of the children’s readiness to act occurred just weeks after the Turkey/Syrian earthquake in February 2023. Our Year 8s decided to sell snacks and drinks at the upcoming school talent show.  The Year 8s sourced the snacks and drinks themselves and sold them on the night of the show. All the profits made went to the earthquake appeal. As a school community we could not be prouder of the spontaneous kindness and exemplary leadership displayed by our Year 8s.
