Developing Confidence And Independence

Welcome to the Middle Department at Edge Grove.

Here, we extend the solid foundations laid in the Junior Department, by challenging pupils academically, on the sports field or through the Arts. Years 3, 4 and 5 are all about pupils further developing independence, confidence and initiative before they move onto the Senior Department and the positions of leadership that await them there,

We continue to develop children as independent learners, giving individuals a balance of support, challenge and extension, beyond the National Curriculum. We challenge children to extend their knowledge and skills, to become ‘thinkers’ and problem solvers.

Learning is enriched through an array of off-site trips and visitors to the School. Building on the solid foundation of earlier years, pupils in Years 5 develop an eagerness to learn and a spirit of independence. Our aim is to produce confident well rounded individuals, whilst affording them the best possible education.

In the Middle Department, each form has a dedicated Form Teacher who is responsible for registration and is the first point of call for pastoral care. An increasing number of specialist teachers will teach pupils in Years 3 and 4 and by the time pupils reach Year 5, all subjects are taught by specialist teachers.

During these years at Edge Grove, pupils are encouraged to undertake a broad spectrum of activities, and are given many opportunities for personal and social growth.
