What are your opening hours?

Our Nursery is open from 8.00am until 6.00pm – the school day is from 8.40am to 3.15pm with optional breakfast and late stay club bookending the core day.

Our fees are based on children attending five mornings a week, adding as many afternoon sessions as parents choose, with most attending five full days by the time they near their transition to “big school”

Are you open all year round?

The Nursery itself operates term time only, but we work closely with Keen Beans Camps who run holiday activities for our children and other local children on the main school site throughout all the school holidays.  Children from age 3 may attend these camps, and they are very popular with our families.

Holiday Camps

Do you have a requirement for a minimum number of sessions?

Children attend Nursery five mornings a week, to ensure that they don’t miss out on any of our specialist lessons (PE, Music and Drama, Forest School, Modern Languages) or on the trip up to big school for story time with the Headmaster.  Families may then choose as many afternoons as they wish – with or without late stay options.  We find most children are doing full nursery days (8.40am – 3.15pm) by the time they are preparing to move up to Reception.

What do the fees include?

Fees include lunch, morning and afternoon snacks as appropriate to your child’s attendance. After school care is at an additional charge.

How will I know what my child does at Nursery?

Edge Grove Nursery operates an “open door’ policy and staff are always willing to engage with parents and share what their child is getting up to Nursery! Morning drop offs can be busy times, so it is usually easier to catch a member of staff at the end of the day.  We also share photographs and notes about your child’s day in their online learning journal, and there are many opportunities for parents to come into Nursery to see for themselves just how much our littlest pupils learn!

Will my child have to wear a uniform?

Yes!  Edge Grove Nursery pupils are very much part of the School and an expression of this is the uniform they wear.  Children wear a comfortable Edge Grove tracksuit or shorts, although they will also need practical home clothes for Forest School.

Full uniform lists will be shared with parents when they accept a place in Nursery.

Will my child get a place in Reception at Edge Grove?

Whilst not an automatic right, the vast majority of our Nursery pupils take up places in Reception at Edge Grove and do not sit our 4+ assessment, as staff know them well enough to determine whether the School is the right fit for them, and vice versa.

What will my child do all day at Nursery?

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum that covers birth to the end of Reception.  This is a play-based curriculum covering seven areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development (the three Prime areas).
  • Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design (the four Specific areas).

At Edge Grove, pupils follow a progressive curriculum that caters for each individual child’s interests whilst making sure that EYFS learning objectives are met. Children have weekly specialist subjects that are taught by teachers from the main school, including Forest School, Music, Drama, P.E. and French.

What will my child eat at Edge Grove Nursery?

All food is freshly prepared in our School kitchen and transported to Nursery. This includes lunch and snacks. We work closely with our Catering Department to ensure that all allergies are met and any specific dietary requirements are catered for, where possible.
