Sport
As well as being a timetabled subject (PE and Games), Sport permeates Edge Grove life via lunchtime and after school activities, inter-House competitions and weekly inter-school fixtures (from Year 3).
In line with the School’s Mission Statement, sport plays an integral part in ensuring that the pupils feel healthy and happy, encouraging Integrity and ensuring that the pupils feel part of the pride by playing team sports and working collaboratively to achieve team targets. The main aim of Edge Grove’s Sports Department is to encourage participation and to develop the all-round skills of all pupils in the School. We have a “Sports for All” philosophy which ensures that all pupils have the opportunity to represent the School, with the most important thing being that they enjoy sport, in an environment free from pressure, allowing them to express themselves. Our belief is that if we are coaching pupils in the right way and they are enjoying their lessons, then the results and outstanding achievements for which we strive, will follow.
We have a wide range of sporting opportunities for all our pupils. From Year 3 the pupils will represent the School in fixtures and tournaments and these opportunities increase as the children move up through the School.
Main Autumn Term Games: Football and Hockey
Main Spring Term Games: Rugby and Netball
Main Summer Term Games: Cricket
Our Co-Curricular Programme provides an even greater variety of sports for pupils of ALL abilities. We believe in the benefits of children participating in a wide variety of sports, and for that reason, make swimming, athletics, cross country, table tennis, tennis, archery and many more available.
