Art

The Art Department Mission is to enhance self-confidence, spread the passion of the creative industry, to create an exciting creative and contemporary educational experience, and to inspire new thinkers and innovators for jobs that do not yet exist.

We are passionate about bringing industry professionals into our classrooms. Visual effect artists, illustrators, fine artists, photographers, and animators share their expertise and insights through engaging videos. These interactions not only inspire our pupils but also provide a glimpse into the real-world applications of their artistic skills, showcasing creative careers to which they can aspire.

Pupils can enter a diverse array of competitions, ranging from internal house contests to larger whole-school challenges, regional events, and even international platforms, showcasing the pupils’ artistic talents.  And we have been pretty successful recently, with winners in the Salvation Army Easter Card Competition a particular highlight, with multiple Edge Grove pupils named amongst the winning and highly commended entries.

The Art Department runs specialised workshop clubs weekly for both the Art Scholars and Ignite Cubs. The Department also offers Ignite holiday camps which included a range of specialist areas from special effects makeup designing, technical drawing challenges, model making and graffiti artwork.

"A special mention should go to the art department and the energetic head of department whose ideas must captivate even the most reluctant artist. The studio is overflowing with a variety of work, and pupils can enter a range of competitions and challenges, as well as working collaboratively with a number of professional artists and engaging in community projects"

The Good Schools Guide 2024

"The best thing about the Art Department - it is the wide variety of artistic techniques we can use and competitions we can enter, along with support in extending our learning in our free time to develop skills."
