FUTURE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME UPDATE

As communicated in my Beginning of Year Letter, Mrs Thomas and I will oversee the Future Schools Programme until further notice.

Year 6 Pupils

Congratulations to the Year 6 pupils who have already started off the Entrance Assessment season with the South West Herts Consortium exams last weekend. We look forward to seeing the results!

Interviews

Form Teachers are conducting practice interviews with all Year 6 pupils, prioritising those who have interviews in the coming days and weeks and ensuring that pupils have the very best advice as to how to promote their engagement and achievements to senior school admissions staff. You can practise this at home (and is an excellent way to enliven boring car journeys!)

Future Schools Handbook for Parents 2024-2025

I have significantly revised the Future Schools Handbook for Parents 2024-2025, which is now live on the Edge Grove App (go to the Documents section). This helps you navigate the very straightforward future schools process and gives you a timeline of actions to ensure that you can build time into your decisions. If there is anything unclear or missing please let me know so that we can revise it.

Future Schools Information Evening

Please remember to diarise 6pm on Tuesday 15th October into your diary for our Future Schools Information Evening for Year 3 to 8 parents.

Future Schools Meetings

If your child is in Years 5 and 6 and you would like to meet with me to discuss your child’s academic profile and next steps, please book an appointment via Mrs Thomas, my PA on  futureschools@edgegrove.com

Top Tip

Ignore the ‘doomsters and gloomsters’ and the pseudo experts. You know your child best and we know your child’s educational profile better than anyone else. Don’t let other parents or tutors worry you about the senior schools process. It is actually very easy and we have NEVER had any surprises. Work in partnership with the School, keep us informed, make realistic and well-informed choices and you will be fine. It needn’t be a stressful process at all; we work hard to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to 11+ and 13+ senior schools and so do the senior schools.

Here’s to a bumper year of future school applications!

ISEB PARENT REGISTRATION – YEAR 5 PUPILS

Parents of pupils due to take the ISEB Pre-Tests between September 2024 and May 2025 can register now, via the Guardian Portal. ISEB Pre-Tests are the online admissions tests used by leading senior schools at 11+ as part of their admissions process. The ISEB Pre-Tests are online, multiple-choice tests and are taken on a computer. There are four tests: English, mathematics, verbal reasoning (VR) and non-verbal reasoning (NVR).

Registration does not need to be completed immediately and we recommend that families explore the preparation section of the Pre-Tests Admissions Toolkit for a range of free resources, information and advice directly from the exam board.

Parents can also sign up to ISEB’s mailing list to be kept up to date with information about the 2024-25 Pre-Tests session and be notified when registration opens. Sign up at www.iseb.co.uk/pretests.

There is also a wealth of resources for parents and pupils including a Pre-Tests Admissions Toolkit on ISEB’s Families Hub. Visit www.iseb.co.uk/families.

Edge Grove works closely with ISEB to gather the right information and guidance for you, and over the next few months, we’ll be using ISEB’s own school preparation resources to ensure that your child is getting the support they need too.
