• Music speech day

Edge Grove has an energetic and thriving music department. Housed in a purpose-built music school, the department offers specialist music teaching from the Nursery to Year 8.

Classes are practical in nature providing enjoyable and stimulating musical experiences through listening, composing, performing and appraising. We aim to build an enthusiasm for music in every child and believe that music-making is a highly important part of their daily education. We work hard on our music and have a lot of fun along the way. To experience the joy of music is key to every child's success.

Pre Prep

Music lessons in the Pre Prep take a very 'hands on' approach. Plenty of singing and musical games allow children to develop a good sense of rhythm and pitch whilst building their confidence and passion for music. Singing takes a key role during assembly and there are plenty of performance opportunities through concerts, nativities and musical productions.

Lower School

Practical music making is key at this age and pupils are actively involved in singing, instrumental work and composition.

Middle School and Upper School

Pupils in the Middle School and Upper School start to use their own instruments in their compositions and performances and continue to build on their listening and appraising skills. They are introduced to a wide range of musical styles and genres intended to broaden their musical horizons.

Musical Opportunities at Edge Grove

The class music is supported by a wide range of musical ensembles, activities and performances.  A specialist team of visiting teachers deliver approximately 200 instrumental lessons covering Woodwind, Brass, String, Percussion and Piano. There are weekly rehearsals for the Orchestra, Lower School Choir, Chamber Choir, Vox15, Rock Band, Flute Choir and Jazz Band. Performance is key for these groups and our choirs perform both at school and in local concerts and regional festivals. Drama and music are closely linked at Edge Grove and pupils enjoy the opportunity to perform in annual musical productions.
